Ctg pvt hospital doctors go on strike

Medical services at private hospitals in Chattogram has been remained halted for 24 hours from 6:00am Tuesday as the doctors called a strike protesting attack on two private hospital doctors.

Earlier on April 10 and 14, private hospital doctor Raktim Das and medical center hospital doctor Riaz Uddin Shiblu came under attack in Chattogram.

However, the decision of the 24-hour strike was unveiled through a circular on Monday night.

Earlier on April 18, a joint meeting of Bangladesh Medical Association, Independent Medical Council (Chattogram Branch), Private Medical Institutions Association, Bangladesh Children Doctors Association, Chittagram and other medical organizations was held in this regard.

Many new patients were suffering as they could not receive any treatment or undergo any medical test due to the strike. Private hospitals were not admitting any new patients or providing medical services to them.

Private diagnostic center Epic Health Care, in front of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, in the city was closed and not providing diagnostic services from Tuesday morning.  

Asma Begum, who came from Cox's Bazar for medical test examination at Epic Diagnostic Center, said, “We are getting to know from far away that there will be no test today. The tests were important. It is not right to deprive people of medical services like this.”

An official of Epic Healthcare could not be reached for comment.  

At the time, the employees at the entrance said that the tests have been stopped today on the orders of the authorities.

In a circular signed by General Secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Chittagong Branch, Dr. Mohammad Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury, on Monday night, demanded the arrest of the accused who assaulted Patiya General Hospital doctor Dr. Raktim Das. The circular also demanded arrests of other accused for attacking Paediatrician working in NICU at Chittagong Medical Center Riaz Uddin Shiblu.  

According to the decision of the joint meeting of all medical organizations, various programs to demand cancellation of bail and arrest of other accused.

Earlier on April 18 noon, a human chain was observed in front of the Chittagong Medical College (CMC) hospital with the participation of various organizations of doctors protesting the attacks on doctors.

On April 10, Dr. Raktim Das was beaten up for delaying the treatment of a patient injured in a motorcycle accident in Patiya. The executive director of the hospital, SH Khademi filed a case with Patiya police station.  

On the other hand, after the death of a child while undergoing treatment at the city's private hospital medical center on April 14, a doctor named Riaz Uddin Shiblu was beaten by the patient's relatives.  Yasin Arafat, the manager of the hospital, filed a case with the police station.
