Ctg Port handles 17,534 TEUs containers on Eid holidays

The operational activities of Chittagong port were normal even during the Eid-ul-Adha holiday. On the day of Eid-ul-Adha on Saturday, port activities including delivery were closed for 8 hours from 8 am to 4 pm. 

Besides, all the activities including container transfer, storage, delivery, container and cargo handling were normal at the port even during the usual closure. Chittagong Port has handled 17,534 TEUs containers during the three-day Eid holiday.

According to the port, 9,362 TEUs containers were handled on July 31, the day before Eid. Of this, 4,081 TEUs were import containers and 5,281 TEUs were export containers. 

On Eid day, 3,853 TEUs containers were handled, of which 1,542 TEUs were import and 2,311 TEUS were export containers. On the day after Eid, 4,319 TEUs containers were handled at the port while on Tuesday the number was 8,241 TEUs. 

The number of container handled at Chittagong Port in the recently departed 2019-20 fiscal year is 30 lakh 4 thousand 142 TEUs while the number of containers handled in FY 2018-2019 was 29 lakh 19 thousand 23 TEUs.

According to Port Transport Department sources, apart from the 8 hours closure on Eid day operational and delivery activities were running 24 hours a day at the port even on public holidays.

Letters were sent to all concerned, including banks, custom houses, off docks, shipping agents and C&F agents in this regard. In the case of imported goods, the Customs House Commissioner was requested to ensure the appointment and overall facilities of the officers and employees of the Custom House for all types of delivery activities including B/E out Pass.

Secretary of port Md. Omar Faruq said that the port authorities have continued 24-hour operational activities even during the holiday season to keep the country's economy afloat. Even though there were government announced holidays on the day before and the day after Eid, the officers and employees continued operational activities 24 hours a day.
