Bangladesh Awami Juba League, an affiliate of Awami League, has started preparations ahead of the 12th general elections.  Preparations have been made to organize conferences in districts and metropolises to speed up party activities across the country.

The Central Juba League has announced May 30 for the conference of Chattogram Metropolitan Juba League.  Leaders have started working towards that goal. The convening committee of Nagar Juba League was formed about 9 years ago.  Mohiuddin Bachchu, the convener of the 101-member convening committee, and Farid Mahmud, the joint convener, do not want to be in the Juba League now.

All of them are aspiring for the post in the committee of Nagar Awami League.  Meanwhile, after announcing the date of the conference of the metropolitan Awami Juba League, the candidates for the post of president and general secretary are not sitting.  The aspirants for the post of President and General Secretary are swearing in the Central Juba League Chairman, General Secretary and the leaders in charge of the Chattogram Division along with the leaders in charge of the Central Awami League and the top leaders of the city Awami League including the Minister-MP. Speaking to several former student leaders of Chattogram Metropolitan Juba League, it is learned that the convening committee was announced on July 9, 2013 by dissolving the committee of Nagar Juba League headed by its president Chandan Dhar and general secretary Mashiur Rahman.  The term of the 101 member committee was 90 days.

Although there was talk of forming a regular committee by holding a conference, no committee has been formed in the last 9 years.  There are committees in only four of the 43 organizational wards of the city - North Patenga, Patenga, Pathantuli and Shulakbahar.  There was no committee in 16 organizational police stations.  Nagar Juba League has been running the convening committee for a long time as the top leaders of Mahanagar Awami League, the policy makers of the organization, are not active in the committee.

Apart from the convening committee, some former BCL leaders have been carrying out various programs announced under the banner of Nagar Juba League without holding any post.

According to Central Juba League sources, through a circular dated March 26, the leaders interested in becoming the President-General Secretary for the Chattogram Metropolitan Organizing Committee on April 5 were asked to submit their CV.  At the Juba League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, applications were received from 35 candidates for the post of Nagar Juba League president and 72 candidates for the post of general secretary.  The officials have completed the verification and selection of these applications through various intelligence agencies.

Meanwhile, 5 conveners of the city Juba League convening committee and three of the joint conveners except Didarul Alam Didar and Mahbubul Haque Sumon are not interested in joining the Juba League.  So they did not submit their CV to be the President-General Secretary.

Debashish Paul Debu, former member of Nagar Chhatra League Steering Committee, Didarul Alam Didar, former member of Central Juba League, Hasan Murad Biplob, Firingi Bazar Ward Councilor, Nurul Anwar Kausar, Executive Member of Nagar Juba League current committee, Paharrat  Uddin, former president of Nagar Chhatra League and CDA board member MR Azim, former general secretary of Nagar Chhatra League Mohammad Salauddin and former member of Central Juba League Suranjit Barua Labu.

Mohiuddin Bachchu, Convener of Mahanagar Juba League, said, "Although the date of our conference has been fixed, the venue has not been fixed yet."  No sub-committee was formed for the conference.  We want competent leadership committees to make the organization more dynamic.
