Chattogram Medical University (CMU) has honored two freedom fighter physicians on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Independence Day. They were awarded crests and certificates in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Liberation War.
The honored freedom fighters are Professor Dr. Muhammad Gofranul Haque, former Principal of Chattogram Medical College and former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Chittagong, and Professor Dr. Mulkutur Rahman, retired Professor of the Department of Medicine at Southern Medical College. Currently, both are serving as Directors of CSCR Hospital in Chattogram.
A discussion meeting was held on Thursday morning at the university’s seminar hall to mark the occasion. The event was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Omar Faruk Yusuf, and conducted by Deputy Registrar Mohammad Ikhtiarul Haque and Section Officer Mohammad Asif Al Hossain. The two honored freedom fighter physicians attended as speakers.
The program began with the rendition of the national anthem. Deputy Registrar Mohammad Ikhtiarul Haque later delivered a presentation highlighting the significance and importance of Independence Day. Deputy Controller of Examinations Md. Atikur Rahman recited a poem on independence.
During the discussion, the freedom fighters shared their experiences and memories of the Liberation War. They stated that under the leadership of martyred President Major General Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam), they actively participated in the war to liberate Chattogram. Professor Dr. Muhammad Gofranul Haque took part in operations in Mirsharai and Sitakunda, while Professor Dr. Mulkutur Rahman was involved in the Chattogram metropolitan area.
The event was attended by Syndicate Member Dr. Khurshid Jamil Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Tamizuddin Ahmed, Registrar Professor Dr. Sultana Ruma Alam, Controller of Examinations and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Science and Paraclinical Science Professor Dr. Ajay Dev, Dean of the Nursing Faculty Professor (CDA) Dr. Meherunnisa Khanam, Director (Finance) Mohammad Ekramul Haque Khan, along with teachers, officers, and staff of the university.
Professor Dr. Moynal Hossain, College Inspector, delivered the vote of thanks. The program concluded with prayers (dua and munajat).
