Journalists in Chattogram have demanded the repeal of a section that violates the rights of journalists in the proposed Media Workers Act.

At a rally at the Chittagong Press Club premises on Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that a draft proposal to amend the law would be sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and other concerned government authorities.

Journalist leaders said the current government is a journalist-friendly government.  During the tenure of this government, various steps have been taken to improve the living standards of journalists.  The government has provided assistance in various ways even during the Coronation period.  But the journalists also demanded that the law be confused as it violates the existing rights of journalists under various sections of the Media Workers Act.

Former general secretary of Chittagong Journalists Union Hasan Ferdous, Kamal Parvez, Pritam Das, SM Pintu, Riazur Rahman Riaz, Abu Saleh, Mahbul Alam and

journalist leaders addressed the rally.
