Dr. Samirul Islam, who was infected with coronavirus and got cured through applying plasma therapy at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), died on Monday.
Although he was cured from the virus infection, his lungs were severely damaged. Perhaps his lungs were infected again after being cured from coronavirus Infection, said Dr. Faisal Iqbal, Secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association Chttogram Chapter.
Suddenly the oxygen level in his body was very low and he was taken for ventilation again. But all efforts went abortive, Faisal Iqbal added.
Dr. Samirul Islam died at Chattogram Metropolitan Hospital, a private hospital in the city where he would practice privately.
General manager of the hospital Dr Mohammad Selim said he has been undergoing treatment at their hospital since June 13. He had been given plasma therapy for two times while undergoing treatment at CMCH for corona infection.
The damage to his lungs caused by Corona could not be repaired. We provide him with ventilation support. But no effort was enough to save his life, Dr Salim added.
Dr. Samirul's coming round of coronavirus infection was seen as a great success by the doctors of CMCH. His death cast a shadow of mourning among the doctors in Chattogram.
