Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, widely recognized for his humane approach, has taken charge as the 34th Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Chattogram. He formally assumed office on Tuesday, succeeding Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamruzzaman, who had been serving as acting DC.
Previously, DC Zahidul served in Rajbari and Narayanganj, earning a reputation for his people-centric initiatives. On taking charge, he expressed his determination to establish a people-friendly and efficient administration and urged cooperation from citizens to strengthen governance, maintain law and order, and support district development.
During his tenure in Narayanganj, he was known for his humanitarian initiatives: providing wheelchairs and laptops to the disabled, financial assistance for medical treatment, educational materials for children, and support to families of 21 July martyrs. He introduced programs like Green and Clean Narayanganj and improved secondary education, health facilities, and sports development.
Zahidul Islam joined the administration through the 25th BCS in 2006 and has served in various capacities across districts such as Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Moulvibazar, and Noakhali. Born in Bhuapur, Tangail, in 1979, he holds a Master’s in International Relations from Dhaka University, a Diploma in Russian, and an MSc in Human Resource Management from the UK.
The handover ceremony at the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner's office was attended by senior officials and local administrators.
