‘Ctg 250 bed general hospital may convert into medical college hospital’

Additional Secretary (Hospital Wing) of Health Services Division under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Muhammad Wahiduzzaman visited various wards of Chattogram 250 Bed General Hospital, including emergency department, outpatient department and inpatient department on Monday.

Acting Superintendent and senior consultant (orthopedics) Dr Ajay Das of the Chattogram 250 Bed General Hospital welcomed the Additional Secretary with flowers during his visit.

Director Genral of Chattogram divisional Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Iftakhar Ahmad, former Director General Dr Md Mohiuddin, Senior Assistant Secretary Snehasish Das, resident medical officer of the hospital Dr Golam Mostafa Jamal, senior consultant, junior consultant, medical officers and officials from Public Works Department were present at that time.

Additional Secretary (Hospital Wing) of Health Services Division Muhammad Wahiduzzaman expressed his satisfaction while visiting various wards and outpatient department, inpatient department, medicine department and surgery department. He also put emphasis on how to improve the medical care more.

Later, he met the doctors in a discussion held at the hospital conference room. Acting Superintendent (orthopedics) and senior consultant of the hospital Dr Ajay Das presided over the discussion.

Additional Secretary (Health Wing) Muhammad Wahiduzzaman was the chief guest of the discussion. During the discussion, he said although it is a 250 bed hospital, there are medical equipment and manpower of a 100 bed hospital only. He said to decide if some doctors and health workers can be recruited in this hospital from the hospitals where there is no crisis of manpower so that the services of emergency department can be accelerated, a decision will be made discussing the matter with the authorities concerned.

He said the 250 Bed General Hospital is situated at the center of Chattogram city. The government is considering about converting the hospital into a full-fledged medical college hospital by developing it to a 500 bed hospital from a 250 bed hospital. Due to that, it was heard that a proposal was sent to the ministry concerned to construct a 10 storied building first and to a 20 storied building later, considering its importance.

He said if the documents of the proposal are sent to the ministry again, he will try to solve the matter with due importance. At the same time, he will inform the ministry about recruiting necessary manpower and increasing other facilities. 

The Additional Secretary expressed his hope that when the multistoried building will be built, all the other problems will be solved gradually as well.
