A new ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ image arrives seeing Tom Cruise's titular character leading the pack of new recruits for the long-awaited action sequel. The new film picks up over 30 years after the events of its predecessor as Maverick is ordered to return to the Fighter Weapons School and train a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission that no living pilot has ever seen. Top Gun: Maverick will see the titular hero pushed to his limits and confront the ghosts of his past as he faces his deepest fears.
Cruise returns to lead the cast of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ alongside fellow returning star Val Kilmer and newcomers Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Monica Barbaro. After languishing in development hell for over a decade at Paramount, production on the ‘Top Gun’ sequel would finally take off in 2018 with ‘Oblivion’ director Joseph Kosinski at the helm and would conclude in mid-2019. Following multiple delays in its release schedule due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is gearing up for its May theatrical release followed by Paramount+ 45 days later.
As the new year kicks off, USA Today has revealed a new ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ image as part of its 2022 must-see movie roundup.
