Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has provided a special incentive bonus of Tk 16 crore 64 lakh 50 thousand to its listed workers and employees following record container and cargo handling at the port in 2025.

The bonus was provided to ensure smooth port operations and maintain industrial peace, according to the authority.

As per a decision of the Chattogram Port Authority Board, a total of 6,660 workers and employees listed under the Labour Branch received Tk 25,000 each. The total amount disbursed stands at Tk 16.64 crore (16 crore 64 lakh 50 thousand taka).

The bonus was financed from the Chattogram Port Container, Cargo Handling Workers and Employees Welfare Fund.

According to the port authority, Chattogram Port achieved record levels of container and cargo handling in 2025. The special bonus was introduced in recognition of the contribution of workers and employees directly involved in port operations and to encourage them to maintain the momentum.

The authority believes the incentive will help maintain operational continuity, boost workers' motivation and ensure industrial peace at the port.

The Chattogram Port Authority Board decided to provide the special incentive bonus to workers and employees listed under its Labour Branch. Under the decision, each eligible worker and employee received Tk 25,000.

The authority said the bonus was paid from the relevant welfare fund rather than the port's regular operating expenditure.

A cheque distribution ceremony was held at the Chattogram Port Authority Board Room on the occasion.

CPA senior officials attended the event, including the Director (Transport), Director (Administration), Chief Welfare Officer, Deputy Secretary (Coordination) and Welfare Officer, among others.

During the ceremony, cheques for the special incentive bonus were handed over to owners and representatives of berth, terminal and ship-handling operators.

Port stakeholders said workers and employees play a vital role in keeping Chattogram Port's operations running smoothly. Their participation is particularly important in container and cargo handling, which directly contributes to the port's overall efficiency.

Following the record handling performance in 2025, the special bonus is expected to serve both as recognition of workers' contributions and as an incentive to maintain operational efficiency and labour stability at the country's principal seaport. #EK
