Cox’s Bazar yet empty as sea remains rough

Cyclone Mocha has passed the Mayanmar region. The danger signal has been dropped as 3 days have passed. However, the sea is still rough. So the red flag remain rising on the sea shore for 3 consecutive days after Mocha. Traveling traders and tourists are waiting for the calm sea.

On Wednesday at 4 pm, it was seen that there were not many people on the beach. However, beach staff, lifeguard staff and tourist police members are on alert. Labani, Sugandha, Kalatali points of the beach are hoisting red flags.

In this regard, Sea Save Lifeguard worker Zafar Alam said, Mocha’s affect can be felt till now. The sea has been rough for the past three days. So the red flag was not removed from the beach for a moment.

He also said that there are not many tourists now. After Mocha, all the businesses along the seashore have not yet opened. It can be said that the 4/5 hundred people seen on the beach are all from Cox's Bazar. There may be a handful of tourists.

According to sources, there was a ban on beach tourism last Saturday and Sunday, but the district administration lifted the ban from Monday. But still Cox's Bazar beach was empty of tourists due to various reasons including rough sea, ongoing SSC exam. Stakeholders are commenting that the arrival of tourists is likely to increase if the sea gradually calms down and the tests are completed.

Abul Kashem Shikder, President of Cox's Bazar Hotel Guest House Owners Association, said that there are not many tourists after the cyclone. Moreover, now everything is open, the SSC exam is going on again. If the weekend is closed or the exams are over, hopefully some tourists will arrive.

The beach can be seen at Sugandha, Labani, Kalatali and Seagull Point, few tourists and hundreds of locals are walking on the beach. Hawkers, photographers, beach bikes, jet skis don't have much origin. They themselves are hanging out in groups.

Shafiul, the traveling photographer of the beach at that time, said, I have not received a single guest since morning. I don't want to go home. So I am sitting here chatting.

Hafez Solaiman, who came to the beach with his family from PMkhali in Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila, said that he had never seen such an empty beach. If there are no outsiders, it is full of local people. Not even today. But it feels good to hear the sound of the waves in this untangled sea.

Cox's Bazar District Administration Additional Magistrate (ADM) Abu Sufian said, all types of beach services have been launched.
