Finally, the long-awaited construction work of the main road in the tourist city Cox's Bazar has begun. The project will be implemented by the Cox's Bazar Development Authority at a cost of Tk 298.14 crore. Once this project is completed, the scenario of Cox’s Bazar city will be changed entirely.

Cox's Bazar Development Authority Chairman Lt. Col. (Retd.) Forkan Ahmed inaugurated the demarcation work of the main road from Rumaliarchhara PT School area to Burmese Market of Cox's Bazar town on Monday. The Prime Minister has given final approval to the first phase work of this project, from Holiday Junction to Hashemia Madrasa in Cox's Bazar town.

Forkan Ahmed said the main road of Cox's Bazar is the oldest and busiest road in the town. Locals and tourists from different parts of the country use this road. So, the construction of the road was very important. The construction period of the road is about 3 years, but Cox’s Bazar Development Authority wants to gift the people a sustainable road within a year and a half.

There are some questions, in the second phase of the work from Hashemia Madrasa to the bus terminal. After getting answers to these questions, the work of the second phase will also start very soon. The work started after the Prime Minister's Office informed Cox's Bazar Development Authority through the ministry, he added.

The chairman of the Cox's Bazar Development Authority said two companies have been split for the construction of the main road, to complete the work quickly. Keeping the quality of work and the stipulated time for it in mind, the construction of this road has started.

Cox's Bazar Development Authority said a project to widen and renovate the road was submitted to the Prime Minister's Office three years ago, which was not approved then due to the high cost of the project.

Later, the project was approved at the ECNEC meeting on July 16, 2019. The renovation and widening work will be done on 5.2 km part of the road in the town. In addition to widening the road, sidewalks, foot over bridges, drains, bridge-culverts, cycle ways will be constructed for pedestrians on both sides of the road. There will also be street lights and CCTV cameras, WiFi connection and greenery on both sides.

It is to be noted that although the main road of Cox's Bazar town is under the Roads and Urban Development Department, this road was handed over to Cox's Bazar Development Authority by the concerned ministry.
