Cox's Bazar Medical College (CBMC), which started its journey on February 9, 2008 with 50 students, has now entered 15 years. In the first batch, CBMC has received 14 batches of students over 14 years. Among them, 439 of the 8th batch have already become full-fledged doctors and have spread to various parts of the country in medical services. 50 more people are interning.
Every year the number of students admitted in the batch increases, but CBMC has not been completed in the last 14 years. Although the campus opened in a quiet environment, there is still shortage of teachers and staff. College buildings, hostels are also incomplete. Although the six-storey building is supposed to be a hostel, the construction has stopped on the third floor. As a result, even though the number of students is increasing year by year, the housing crisis is intensifying. It has become difficult for the authorities to secure student accommodation in hostels due to overcrowding, beds on floors and balconies.
In spite of this crisis, the former principal, teachers and former students celebrated the fifteenth anniversary of CBMC together. More than five hundred students from 1st to 14th batch participated in the foundation anniversary.
After the anniversary rally, the anatomy museum was inaugurated on the 15th year of its establishment. Anatomy is the main teaching material for medical students. Every medical college sets up this museum during the journey. However, it didn't happen at all.
According to sources, in 2008 CBMC traveled to a unit of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. From there, in 2015, after crossing uphill and downhill, the college was brought to a permanent campus, but the then principal Mohammad Rezaul Karim did not get the opportunity to arrange the purchase of necessary accessories for anatomy. After his retirement, the ACC filed a case citing the purchase of necessary goods as surplus, and no subsequent principal took the initiative to build an anatomy museum or any other developmental activities. The responsibility has been solved by teaching the students with the equipment in the classroom. But recently appointed principal Farhad Hossain inaugurated the anatomy museum on the 15th anniversary of 'Cox MC'.
Hands-on training materials about human body parts have been preserved in this museum. The museum is decorated with different parts of human body including skeleton, heart and various related pictures. Authorities said that students can visit the museum whenever they want to compare it with the discussion presented in class.
During the inauguration of Anatomy Museum, which was celebrated under the management of CBMC Pediatric Department Associate Professor Mohammad Nurul Alam and Surgery Assistant Professor Sakhawat Hossain, former and present hundreds of teachers including former college principal Professor Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Ashok Kumar Dutta, Subhash Chandra Saha, Anupam Barua and Arup Dutta Bappi were present.
After that, the discussion and memorial meeting took place in the hall.. Special respect and honor was given to The founding principal Dr BM Ali Yusuf.
Earlier, alumni and teachers started coming to the campus from 9 am on Thursday. After a long time from their respective workplaces, everyone was overwhelmed by meeting old classmates and friends. In the day-long Milan Mela, the cultural program starts in the evening.
CBMC Principal Dr Farhad Hossain said that although there are inadequate administrative buildings and hostels, the medical college hospital, the main means of becoming a doctor, has not yet seen the light of day. Even though 6 years have passed since the foundation stone was laid in 2017, not a single brick has been raised till date. As a result, the comic's activities are going on with various crises. In the meantime, we are happy to celebrate our fifteenth anniversary together with former students, teachers and current students.
He also said that under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the 250-bed Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital has been used as a temporary COMEC hospital since November 2010. Since then, it has been regarded as the clinical training area for interns and 3rd to 5th year college students. But there are not enough facilities for training. We are hopeful that the construction of the permanent hospital in CBMC will start in the next financial year. The principal wants everyone's cooperation to ensure this.
