Cox’s Bazar authorities pledge firm determination to hold fair polls

Officials concerned on Sunday expressed firm determination to ensure a neutral, free, fair and festive election environment Cox’s Bazar.

The district administration, police, and other election-related authorities pledged to hold a credible election for the next generation.

These commitments were made at a meeting of the Cox’s Bazar District Law and Order Committee, where the District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other concerned officials sought cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and fair election. Candidates were urged not to pay heed to rumors and to approach law enforcement agencies directly if any issues arise.

Several measures were adopted at the meeting to ensure a free, fair, and impartial national parliamentary election.

The meeting was held on Sunday morning at the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office, chaired by the District Commissioner and District Magistrate, Md. A. Mannan. Speakers included newly appointed Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman; former Member of Parliament and Cox’s Bazar District BNP President Shahjahan Chowdhury; RAB-15 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Neyamul Halim Khan; Additional District Magistrate Shahidul Alam; Civil Surgeon Dr. Muhammadul Haque; Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Development Authority Sanjida Begum; Deputy Commander of 34 BGB Major Ashik; Cox’s Bazar Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Principal Nur Ahmed Anwari; Cox’s Bazar City Jamaat Ameer Abdullah Al Faruq; and Cox’s Bazar Press Club General Secretary Momtaz Uddin Bahari.

Speaking at the meeting, Superintendent of Police Sajedur Rahman said, “We want to deliver an election so that no one has to go to jail or leave the country. We are here under special circumstances, and we have no personal demands. Our goal is to present a beautiful election for the next generation.” He also announced that special drives against illegal weapons would begin soon.

District Commissioner Md. A. Mannan said, “We are fully committed to holding the election in Cox’s Bazar in a completely neutral and festive environment. All necessary preparations have been taken.” Addressing the candidates, he added, “Please do not believe rumors. If any problem arises, come directly to us. We have taken all preparations to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.”

The meeting included extensive discussions on ensuring a free, fair, and impartial parliamentary election. All candidates were urged to strictly follow the election code of conduct. Several decisions were also taken to maintain a healthy and orderly election environment ahead of the polls.

In addition to election-related issues, discussions were held on overall law and order in Cox’s Bazar, allowing fishermen to fish in the Naf River, drug prevention, traffic congestion, and the development of tourism.
