Every village in Damurhuda Upazila of Chuadanga has been infected with Lampy Skin Disease (LSD). The disease has reached the epidemic level across the upazila. But till now no cattle died from this disease. There has been a lot of panic among cattle breeders about Lampy Skin Disease.

Farmers and farmers said that suddenly the cow's body is getting hot. Small lumps of flesh are growing all over the cow's body. Much like a wart. These are more common in legs, neck and head. The skin is raised and becomes a wound. Cows stop eating at this time.

According to doctors, these symptoms are sure of Lumpy Skin Disease. The death rate of this disease is 1-3 percent. Affected cattle may become blind due to watery eyes. Infertility can occur in bulls and abortion in pregnant animals.

More dangerous than scabies, this disease usually occurs at the end of the rainy season, in the beginning of autumn, during the spread of mosquitoes. This viral disease spreads from one cow to another through mosquitoes and food. It is important to protect against infection with vaccines and keep infected cows isolated and in mosquito nets after infection. Farmers are flocking to Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital every day with cows infected with this disease.

The victim, Rumana Yasmin, a farmer of Madrasa Para, Damurhuda Upazila Sadar, said that there are 13 cows in her farm. Out of these, 9 cows were affected with Lampy Skin Disease. Due to this, the remaining cows of the farm have been removed and kept separately. After treatment, the affected cows have almost recovered.

Madhu Mia, a farmer of Old Bastpur village, said that one of his calves was infected with this disease. Various treatments have yielded no results. Livestock authorities said that there is no official medicine for this disease. Farmers are worried about this.

Damurhuda Upazila Livestock Officer (Acting) Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun said that although there is no official medicine for this new disease, there is import of vaccine at the private level.

He also said that to avoid this disease in cows, farmers and farmers are being counseled from house to house.

He also said that if this disease is not treated properly, cows may die due to swelling of legs and urinary tract. 48 farmers and farmers in upazila have about 84 thousand cows.
