The recovery rate of patients with Covid-19 Delta variant is higher at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital compared to other districts of the country.

According to sources of RMCH, the number of patients being attacked with the Corona Delta variant continued to increase at the Corona unit of the hospital so the number of deaths at the unit also increased. But, at the same time the number of recovery of the patients also increased at the unit.

Even during July this year, a large number of Corona patients were admitted to the hospital but the recovery rate in this month is also higher- a 84.34% which is higher among the last four-months. The average rate of recovery during the last four- month period is 79%.

It is learnt, due to proper management, dutifulness of doctors, nurses and other staff, supply of medicines and the overall supervision of the Director of the hospital Brig Gen ShamimYazdani were the causes that helped hundreds of Corona patients to take proper treatment and medication here. Despite the shortages of doctors and nurses, the treatment of the Corona unit is being managed properly, without any complaint so far from any patient or even from the guardians or relatives of any dead patients. Within a short span of time, the Corona unit of the hospital has been equipped with sophisticated machinery and the system of Oxygen supply at the hospital is better than most of the hospitals in the country. Moreover, many persons and institutions have come forward with necessary high-flow nasal cannulas, Oxygen cylinders and other necessary equipment to help the patients during this crucial period. As a result, most of the admitted patients are returning home after successful treatment with smiles on their faces. RMCH sources, however, mentioned the rate of death would decrease further if the patients were admitted to the hospital in due time.

Hospital sources informed, in April, May, June and July this year, the recovery rate of Corona patients at the unit was 79.51 percent, 76.36 percent, 72.10 percent and 84.34 percent respectively. The average rate of recovery in four-month was 79 percent. In July, the number of recovery is greater as the number of deaths and the number of admitted patients are also larger. During the last four months ending in July-31, a total of 4,731 patients were admitted to the Corona unit of the hospital, of them, 3,724 were recovered and returned home and 1,103 patients died. Of the dead, 437 had Corona positive, 628 died of Corona symptoms and 38 died in post recovery complications. The rest of the patients are still under treatment.

However, many patients are dying with Corona positive symptoms and in post-corona complications. Only in July a total of 1,878 patients were admitted to the unit of whom 1,584 were recovered but 531 patients died. Of the dead 320 died of Corona symptoms, 180 died of Corona positive and 31 died even after recovery in post-corona complications.

Brig Gen ShamimYazdani, Director of RMCH said, despite shortages of doctors and nurses, the relentless effort and sincerity of the on duty doctors, nurses and staff and the use of  necessary equipment, Oxygen etc., a large number of Covid-19 Delta variant patients at the hospital have been recovered. Sophisticated equipment have played a vital role in curing the patients. He further said, there is no such equipment in many other hospitals of the country through which the unit has been equipped.

'While the Covid patients were increasing, we connected more wards with Central Oxygen lines so that there is no shortage of Oxygen. The number of beds at the Corona unit has also been increased to 513. As a result, more patients  have got the chance to be admitted in the hospital and to take proper treatment. There are 83 nasal cannulas, 22 biopacs and 22 ICUs in the Corona unit of the hospital. Many people have come forward to assist the unit by supplying various treatment materials. As a result, we have been able to treat the patients in a proper way and thus saving many lives. The present situation of the unit is better than the past', added Director ShamimYazdani.
