Covid positivity rate below 5pc for 14 days in a row

Bangladesh registered 18 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Monday. The total number of deaths has reached to 27,591 with the latest figure.   

The country recorded 794 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,558,758, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.

The death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release. 

The positivity rate has been below five percent for the fourteenth day in a row. Covid-19 situation is considered under control if the infection rate remains below five percent for two consecutive weeks.

The current positivity rate stands at 3.19 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 15.87 percent. 

Among the 18 deceased, eight were men, and 10 were women. Seven of the deceased were from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, three from Sylhet and one each were from Khulna, Sylhet and Barisal. 

A total of 24,928 samples were tested across the country till 8am Monday.

During this period 834 Covid-19 patients have recovered. A total of 1,519,588 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 97.49 percent.

As of Monday 4,817,796 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 235,810,070 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
