COVID cases rapidly rise, cross 48,000 in Chattogram

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly crossed the 48,000 mark in Chattogram district where the infection rate continues rising hurriedly again in recent weeks, reports BSS.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 48,139 as 278 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 1765 samples with the daily infection rate of 15.75 percent on Wednesday in the district.

“The infection rate is showing a quickly rising trend again and recovery rate declining continuously in the district in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS on Thursday.

The health expert of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks due to continuous increasing corona infections here.

Among the newly detected patients, 223 are from Chattogram city and 55 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said. The infection toll now stands at 48,139 and with the five deaths on Thursday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 480, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, said.

Among the reported fatalities, 358 were the residents of the port city and the rest 122 were from different upazilas of the district.

Civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 38,647 are the residents of the port city and the rest 9492 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 36,122 in the Chattogram district with the recovery of 76 more patients on Wednesday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 75.23.

A total of 1396 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
