Bangladesh Post on Thursday ran a story headlined “Local vaccine soon” that says Bangladesh is going to produce Covid-19 vaccine shortly in collaboration with a foreign company.
The vaccine would be manufactured in the country’s Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) laboratory.
And the lab will get the approval of the World Health Organization’s soon.
We think when the coronavirus vaccine will be produced locally and it will appear safe, people will be vaccinated with two doses of vaccines against the coronavirus immediately.
Bangladesh has many giant
companies which are capable of
producing the vaccine
Bangladesh received its first ever Covid-19 vaccine consignment on January 21 as India sent 20 lakh doses of vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca as a gift.
The country has so far received 90 lakh vaccine doses as a part of tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a subsequent agreement signed last year among Bangladesh government, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd and the SII.
The agreement ensures availability of three crore COVID-19 vaccine doses by June this year from the Serum Institute of India.
The countrywide vaccination campaign which on February 7 and over 40,13, 963 people have so far received the first dose of Coronavirus vaccine.
We believe our locally produced vaccine will guarantee the supply we need to protect the country’ people rapidly and in large numbers.
Earlier on February 27, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina disclosed the information at a press conference, saying the government took steps to produce the vaccine locally.
The government has already asked different pharmaceutical companies to get ready for production if they are capable.
Bangladesh has many giant companies, which are capable of producing the vaccine.
Apart from the government, we also hope our local pharmaceutical companies with the capacity needed to produce millions of doses will come forward in this regard.
