The vaccination campaign for kids aged 5 to 11 across the country is going on in full swing. The national campaign to administer Pfizer paediatric Covid-19 vaccine to children on a trial basis began on August 11 while the full-fledged programme from August 25.
It is good to see that our children are getting vaccinated against Covid-19 cheerfully. Children in large number are gathering at different vaccination centres in the country since early morning of the day and thanking the government after receiving Covid-19 vaccine.
Bangladesh needs about 4.40 crore doses of vaccine for these children and the country has already received about 30 lakh doses. The US government has assured country of providing the rest of the vaccines through COVAX facility.

Five types of vaccines -- Astrazeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Janssen are now available in the country. The country has been lauded globally for expansion of vaccination coverage. The government had also launched a “no vaccine, no service” campaign at all public offices to encourage people to get vaccinated.
After two and half years into the Covid-19 pandemic, life returns to normal in our country. The government had to impose nationwide strict lockdown and restrictions as well several times to check the spread of novel Coronavirus.
The government began the administration of Covid -19 vaccines on 27 January 2021 while mass vaccination started on 7 February 2021. The Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine was the only COVID-19 vaccine authorised for emergency use from January to April 2021.
Since then the Covid-19 vaccination campaign continued smoothly through inoculation of eligible citizens with the first, second and third doses of Covid-19 jabs in the country.
Bangladesh has set a target to vaccinate the country’s 80 per cent population by this year. The country has been able to control three waves of coronavirus taking multiple initiatives.
However, the crisis is yet to pass as various new variants of the coronavirus may spread across the globe. So, all will have to avoid crowd, use masks whenever we go outdoors and get cleaned upon our return home.
