Covid-19 positivity jumps to 43.41pc in Rangpur

The daily Covid-19 positivity rate jumped to 43.41 percent in Rangpur division where 153 fresh cases were reported after testing 364 newly collected samples at the two Covid-19 laboratories on Friday, reports BSS.

“The daily positivity rate marked a sharp rise during the last 24 hours in the division where the same ranged between 25 and 30 percent in recent days,” said Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 38.40 percent on Thursday, 23.27 percent on Wednesday, 24.74 percent on Tuesday, 24.17 percent on Monday, 26.75 percent on Sunday and 29.51 percent on Saturday last in the division. Among the 153 new patients, 94 were reported positive after diagnosing 176 newly collected samples at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) Covid-19 Laboratory at the daily positivity rate of 53.41 percent on Friday.

“The 94 new patients include 44 from Rangpur, 21 from Kurigram, nine from Lalmonirhat and 20 from Gaibandha districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 6:50 pm.

On the other hand, 64 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) Covid-19 Laboratory in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 34.04 percent on Friday.

“The 64 newly infected Covid-19 patients include 44 from Dinajpur, 10 from Thakurgaon and five each from Nilphamari and Panchagarh districts,” said Principal of MARMC Prof Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 38,978 as 158 new positive cases were reported today from across the division. The district-wise break up of 38,978 infected patients stands at 8,584 in Rangpur, 2,144 in Panchagarh, 2,984 in Nilphamari, 2,048 in Lalmonirhat, 2,869 in Kurigram, 5,345 in Thakurgaon, 11,703 in Dinajpur and 3,301 in Gaibandha of the division.
