Covid-19 cases reach 47,678 in Rangpur division

The total number of Covid-19 positive cases reached 47,678 with the diagnosis of 159 fresh cases on Friday in all eight districts of the division, reports BSS. 

Health officials said 10 more patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Saturday in the division where the overall Covid-19 situation is mostly showing a steady trend in recent days. 

“The 159 new Covid-19 cases were reported after testing 844 samples in the division at the positivity rate of 18.84 percent on Friday,” said Dr ZA Siddiqui, focal person of the Covid-19 and assistant director (Health) for Rangpur division.       Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 24.78 percent on Thursday, 30.44 percent on Wednesday, 32.07 percent on Tuesday, 28.65 percent on Monday, 29.75 percent on Sunday and 30.31 percent on Saturday last in the division. 

The district-wise break-up of total 47,678 patients now stands at 10,669 in Rangpur, 3,022 in Panchagarh, 3,889 in Nilphamari, 2,377 in Lalmonirhat, 3,933in Kurigram, 6,441 n Thakurgaon, 13,254 in Dinajpur and 4,093 in Gaibandha.

 “Since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak in the division, a total of 2,26,919 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 47,678 were found positive with an average positivity rate of 21.01 percent,” Siddiqui added.

 Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of casualties reached 1,014 as 10 new fatalities were reported from six districts out of eight in the division.   

 The district-wise break-up of the 1,014 fatalities now stands at 230 in Rangpur, 63 in Panchagarh, 72 in Nilphamari, 57 in Lalmonirhat, 56 in Kurigram, 196 in Thakurgaon, 288 in Dinajpur and 52 in Gaibandha.

 “The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.13 percent in the division,” Dr Islam said.

  Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients of the deadly virus reached 37,423 with recovery of 383 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 78.49 percent.

Of the total 37,423 recovered patients, 7,416 of Rangpur, 1,945 of Panchagarh, 3,243 of Nilphamari, 1,930 of Lalmonirhat, 2,995 of Kurigram, 5,015 of Thakurgaon, 11,973 of Dinajpur and 2,906 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 47,678 infected patients, 599 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 37,423 patients and 1,014 deaths while 9,054 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 10,16,727 and, among them, 3,96,753 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

 Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to strictly abide by the health directives amid the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the division.
