A Dhaka court has ordered to seize of 15 kathas of land and a ten-storey building in Savar, owned by former Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, in connection with a corruption case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Tuesday following a petition from ACC Deputy Director Md Masudur Rahman.
According to ACC, Shibli Rubaiyat allegedly received Tk 1.92 crore in bribes using a fake house rent agreement. He also stands accused of fraud and forgery by showing false export agreements without actually exporting any goods.
Investigators claim the seized property was developed using illicit funds disguised as family expenses and later shown as advance house rent, suggesting possible money laundering.
The court deemed the seizure necessary to prevent the transfer or disposal of assets allegedly acquired through criminal means.
