The Counter Terrorism Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police arrested a couple for allegedly hacking other people’s Facebook accounts and threatening to upload the victims’ personal pictures on adult sites.

The arrestees were identified as Asaduzzaman Palash, 21, and his wife Sadia Sarkar, 21, who were arrested from Mahmudabad of Habiganj district on Friday morning, CMP Deputy Commissioner Md Hamidul Alam said on Saturday.

Alam said the couple confessed to hacking people’s Facebook IDs in guise of recovering it, using Facebook page boost, Facebook ID verified and page ad followers to increase the number of followers.

They demanded ransom from the victims threatening them to upload personal information, pictures and videos on users on porn sites, he added.

Two smartphones containing information on 50 Facebook accounts and six registered SIM cards were recovered from them, Alam said.

The police official said a Facebook ID of the victim's younger sister was hacked on November 26.  He finds a page after searching various sites to recover the ID.  Later, the Facebook page user introduced himself as Tanzila Akhter Tuli.

Tanzila Akhter Tuli called the victim's Facebook messenger and demanded money to recover the hacked ID of the victim's sister.  Victim pays the claimed money to a development number.

As soon as the victim gives the Facebook ID and password to that link, the Facebook ID used by the victim is logged out and his account is hacked.  In this incident, when the victim called Tanzila on Messenger from another Facebook ID, an unknown person said that he had hacked the victim's ID.
