The Department of Narcotics Control has arrested a couple named Kamar Uddin (35) and Jamila Begum (28) along with 15 thousand 500 Yaba from a Dhaka-bound bus in Karnaphuli of Chattogram.
They were arrested from a bus at Shah Amanat Setu Toll Plaza area of Karnaphuli police station around 1 pm on Wednesday. They have been sent to court on Thursday.
Assistant Director of Chattogram Metro (South) Office of Directorate Somen Mondal said, Omar Uddin is the son of Nazeer Ahmed of North Kuniapalong village school of Ramu police station in Cox's Bazar. They live in Narda area of Gulshan Police Station of the capital.
Before this, they said that they have smuggled Yaba from Cox's Bazar to different parts of the country including Dhaka. A case has been registered against them under Narcotics Act at Karnaphuli police station.
Somen Mondal said that on the basis of secret information, after raiding Shah Amanat bridge toll plaza and searching a Dhaka-bound bus, two passengers Kamar Uddin and his wife Jamila Begum were arrested and 15 thousand 500 Yaba were recovered from their bags.
