Country sees 21 Covid deaths in a day

Bangladesh registered 21 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Sunday. The total number of deaths has reached 27,414 with the latest figure.

The country recorded 980 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,551,351, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

The death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release.

The positivity rate has been below five percent for the sixth day in a row. Covid-19 situation is considered under control if the infection rate remains below five percent for two consecutive weeks.

The current positivity rate stands at 4.41 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.13 percent.

Among the 21 deceased, seven were men, and 14 were women. 10 of the deceased were from Dhaka, four from Chattogram, three from Sylhet, two from Rajshahi, and one each from Khulna and Mymensingh.

A total of 22,221 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday.

During this period 1,312 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 1,511,479 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.43 percent.

As of Sunday 4,758,748 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 232,360,218 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
