In order to contain the coronavirus outbreak, the government has suspended all kinds of transport movement and ordered the closure of government, non-government and private offices and establishments. Police and Armed Forces were deployed to help the civil administration ensure that people maintain social distancing and coronavirus suspects remain in quarantine to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

The government has made the containment of the virus their top priority and all branches of government are working simultaneously around the clock to prevent an outbreak in the country. The authorities are working hard to ensure that those who returned from abroad remain in home-quarantine.

Working on the suggestion of the World Health Organization (WHO), Bangladesh government has urgently scaled-up aggressive measures to combat COVID-19. The matter is of great urgency, as countries which now have thousands of infections, like Italy, were too slow to respond with appropriate measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Inter-district travel has been severely restricted and all non-essential employees are being told to work from home. Mass awareness is crucial and the public must be made to understand the grievousness of the situation.

Many people are still viewing the lockdown as unnecessary as they are unable to grasp the gravity of the situation. If an outbreak occurs in the country, the healthcare system will be overwhelmed and thousands will die from the disease.

Simple public health measures are critical including practicing hygiene, and practicing social distancing. Self-initiated isolation by people with mild diseases is crucial in order to reduce the burden on the health system and reduce virus transmission.

During this national crisis, the government must prioritize low-income people as they are the most vulnerable group at the moment. Not only is their income source been drastically reduced, they also do not have the option to stay at home as they must earn their daily bread.
