The government on Friday resumed a two-week nationwide lockdown after nine days of easing to mark the holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the major religious festivals of the Muslims. Reportedly, the shutdown will continue till August 5.  We think considering the current situation of coronavirus infection, the government has taken the right decision to protect the people against coronavirus.

All government, semi-government, autonomous, private offices along with travel curbs on road, rail, river and domestic aviation services remain closed since Friday morning,  Besides, all kinds of shopping malls, market along with all types of tourism centers, resorts, community centers and recreation centers also remain closed under the new restrictions. And even all the industries including RMG factories and all sort of gatherings including birthday, picnic, party, social, political and religious functions which attract crowd will remain suspended. However, officials of the different law enforcement agencies and emergency services are allowed to travel after showing their respective identity cards.

We need to frame a strategic

work plan to overcome this

situation

Keeping the current situation in mind, we think everyone must avoid any "non-essential" contact with others including staying away from any sort of gathering like gossiping at tea stalls or crowding at bazar or other places. On Thursday different members of law enforcement agencies like Police, Border Guard Bangladesh and the military troops were seen patrolling roads, highways and other strategic points to make the shutdown a success across the country.  We believe Bangladesh will win the battle against coronavirus if country’s people strictly follow the health guidelines to check the deadly virus.

People have to wear masks and follow other health protocols. In line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s commitment to the poor, we think local administrations and people representatives like lawmakers, upazila chairmen, union parishad chairmen and members will ensure smooth distribution of food grains to the poor during the Covid19 lockdown. As Covid-19 has plunged the entire nation like many other foreign countries into a crisis, we need to frame a strategic work plan to overcome this situation.
