There are about 58,51,827 legal motorised vehicles in the country. These vehicles are legally certified by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for plying on the road.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday revealed the information while responding to a star-marked question which was tabled and raised by treasury bench lawmaker Benzir Ahmed of Dhaka -20 at the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad.

He said that the country has over 58.51 lakhs authorized legal motor vehicles.

Any person or owner of a motorized vehicle would not get permission to ply motor vehicles on the road, highways or public places without having registration certificate as per the newly enacted Road Transport Act, 2018.

These BRTC buses are being operated in sixty-three districts across the country except the Bandarban district.

Even the government has a plan to procure 100 double-decker electric buses.

In replying to another question, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Osaid a total of 1131 bridges have been constructed in the country in the last three terms of the government.

“So far, 1131 big and small bridges have been constructed in the country during the past three tenure of the present government,” he said.

The minister said this while responding to a query which was tabled and raised by treasury bench lawmaker Kazim Uddin Ahammed of Mymensingh-11 at the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad.

Of these constructed bridges, 20 bridges were over 500 meters and 165 bridges were constructed between the lengths of 100 to 500 meters. Constructions of more 20 bridges are under way in the current fiscal year.
