CoU teacher relieved off duties over sexual harassment

The Comilla University authorities relieved one of its teachers from a departments' head following a resignation letter after he had allegedly harassed a female students sexually and had ailed his fellows.

Earlier on January 15, a female students of the evening course of the department of English lodged a complaint to the university registrar where she alleged that Associate Professor Mohammad Ali Rizwan Talukder had harassed her sexually and mentally and deleted some important files from her phone which would had been submitted as documents against him.

Following the complaint, authorities formed a six member probe body to investigate the allegation, but the body has not submitted its report although the duration has been ended. Moreover, on February 6, another two teacher of the same department lodged more one complaint to the registrar accusing that Ali Rizwan made some absurd comments against them and misbehaved with.

Following the allegations, authorities had replaced the English department's head with Associate Professor Dr Banani Biswas on Tuesday as Ali was relieved from the departments' head post. However, another allegation raised that the university authorities forced Ali Rizwan to quit only his post to save him strategically from bigger punishment.

Asked about the matter, CoU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury said that teachers were complaining against each others. We're looking into the matter, he added.
