CoU holds workshop on mental health importance

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Comilla University have conducted a day long training program titled 'Covid 19 Pandemic: Students Mental Health Disasters during Corona Virus and Remedies' for the for the students on Thursday. The workshop was held at the virtual classroom with 57 students from all departments of the university.

The training workshop was scheduled to be held on August 29, while a teacher from the psychology department of the University of Dhaka, accused of being involved in various unethical activities including in sexual harassment, was invited as the 'resource person' of the program. IQAC hastily halted the program after media had published news regarding the issue on August 28 evening. The authorities, finally, conducted the training with a different resource person Ms. Jobeda Khatun, head of Clinical Psychology department of the Dhaka University.

IQAC director Professor Dr. Md. Rashidul Islam Sheikh presided over the program while CoU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A F M Abdul Moyeen and treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman attended as the chief and special guest respectively.

Addressing the program, VC Abdul Moyeen said, we always talk about physical health, avoiding mental health. Mental peace is sometimes more important than physical health. It is connected with physical health. It is not only neglected by the government, policy makers but also did the same by our families and society.

Students Advisor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, IQAC additional director Golam Mortaza Talukdar were presents, among others, in the program.
