While addressing a function marking the International Anti-Corruption Day 2023 in the capital Dhaka President Mohammed Shahabuddin said the corrupt people have no party and no principle.

He also asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officials to discharge duties maintaining utmost moralities and integrity. The authorities concerned must ensure exemplary punishment to the corrupt individuals, whoever he might be.

Besides, reaffirming her government’s tough stance against corruption and irregularities, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also repeatedly issued strong warning against graft especially by public servants. But the common people are yet to get rid of the menace of corruption, irregularities and mismanagement as.  But the warming went in vain.

Common people

are yet to get rid of the menace

 of corruption

Being encouraged, the organised corrupt officials and employees forming an unofficial syndicate continue resorting to corruption across the country. The service-seekers either in rural or urban area are being harassed and humiliated in many ways by the greedy and corrupt officials and employees when they go to the government offices to get service or for other important purposes.

We are stunned why there should be corrupt practices when the government enhanced the salaries, allowances and other privileges of the public servants significantly. So, all must boycott the corrupt socially and raise an unequivocal and collective voice against corruption in the spirit of the War of Liberation to build a corruption-free prosperous society.

It is still one of the major concerns in our country amid government’s efforts to implement its zero-tolerance policy against graft. We also wonder when we see the most government staff, ignoring the president and prime minister’s warning, are still abusing power and taking bribe shamelessly from the service- seekers every day.

The public servants who would abuse the power and responsibilities should be dealt severely, strictly controlled and brought to justice under the existing law immediately. So, the authorities should launch a crackdown against corrupt officials and staff immediately as people’s sentiment against the persisting corrupt practices in different sectors, has already taken a serious turn.
