Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner (Investigation) Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan said ACC is an important institution of the country. But now many important people of the government are in jail. Corrupt people are now in such fear that they will be caught and punished at any time.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at ACC's public hearing at Chattogram Medical College's Shaheed Birottam Shah Alam Auditorium on Wednesday. This is the first time the Anti-Corruption Commission has organized a public hearing in Chattogram.
ACC Commissioner said that those accused in the Anti-Corruption Commission case will remain as accused until the case is disposed of. There is no escape from prosecution. No one accused of being alive will be spared. Action will also be taken against those who are accomplices of corruption.
Pointing out that corruption should be eradicated from the society, the ACC Commissioner said, our statement is zero tolerance to corruption. This is our target. If we can get close to that, that's enough for us. Until we succeed in our zero tolerance policy, our activities will continue with a firm hand. We will never back down.
He said, ACC is getting stronger gradually. Now ACC has increased in size and capacity. It has the power to take cognizance and prosecute corruption. We have been able to punish 70 percent of ACC cases.
On the occasion, ACC Director General AKM Sohail said, today I will listen to the sufferings of the common people in the public hearing. The state employs paid government officials to serve the people. Today's public hearing is to hear if anyone has suffered any kind of hardship unethically, unjustifiably to get that service.
If an officer is unable to answer the questions satisfactorily in the public hearing today, the complaint will be brought before the committee directly through the ACC's Scrutiny Committee. After that he may be investigated and prosecuted.
Victims of harassment or corruption to get any government service in Chittagong city are presenting their complaints before the officials of the concerned office in the public hearing.
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin, Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Divisional Director of Chattogram ACC along with heads of various government departments are present in the event.
