Like the rest of the country, the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar have also been brought under the mass corona vaccination activities. The vaccination campaign began among the displaced members of Myanmar’s Rohingya community.

Corona vaccination programme has started from Tuesday (August 10) in 34 Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.

Shah Rezwan Hayat, Additional Secretary, Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation, inaugurated the vaccination programme at Ukhia Kutupalong Camp 4 Extension at around 11 am on Tuesday.

Among the Rohingyas in the camp, in the first phase, 48,000 Rohingyas above the age of 55 are being vaccinated against corona virus at 56 centers.

At the same time, camp workers, mosque imams and volunteers are also being vaccinated.

Shah Rezwan Hayat, commissioner of the Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner's Office (RRRC), confirmed the immunization program at the Rohingya camp.

He said vaccinations are being given at 56 centers in 34 Rohingya camps from August 10. In the first phase, about 48,000 Rohingyas over the age of 55 are being vaccinated. The vaccination campaign will continue till August 18. On the first day, 8,000 Rohingyas have been given vaccination cards at those 57 vaccination centers.

Rohingyas who come for vaccination are taking this vaccine spontaneously. Rohingyas say they are taking the vaccine to survive the Corona epidemic. They thanked the government for including them in the mass vaccination activities.

Officials said that in addition to those over 55 years of age, about 18,000 people, including volunteers, camp workers and mosque imams, would be vaccinated. There are 16 teams working with the health department in immunization activities.

Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Civil Surgeon, Cox's Bazar, and representatives of UNHCR-IOM World Health Organization were present at the inauguration ceremony of the vaccination programme.
