People left helpless at corona test centres

The wretchedness of corona, identification tests are not ending in spite of the large numbers of testing lab and hotlines in the capital Dhaka.

Despite all the efforts from the government, test results are coming in delay, and even many cases patients alleged that with several repeated attempt through the hotline they failed to test.

In such a situation, worried people running towards Corona test centers, from one to another institution.
Mustakim Ahmed from Lalbagh area alleged to Bangladesh Post that he failed to test his mother sample despite trying several times over hotline. Later from BSMMU, he tests ‘negative’.

Another such incident Alok Hasan from Paltan said, “I have tried many times. They said their sample collecting van will come to our door but that at no time happened within a week.”

last week, for the first time, three private hospitals (Evercare Hospital former Apollo Hospital, Square Hospital, and United Hospital) in the capital and a private hospital outside Dhaka in Narayanganj (US-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Rupganj) have started treatment and examination of corona patients.

In this regard, the former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSSMU) and Chairman of the Department of Virology, Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam said, “As the infection spreading and the number of infections increasing, a difficult time to anticipate. May is the peak time. So now the test has to be stepped up. It is better to do at least 10 thousand tests per day.”

“Let the IEDCR and the Department of Health should collect as many samples as possible. For those who want to get tested, the center needed to be expanded,”

The expert suggested that arrangements have to be made so that the test results are available in a short time. Safety must be ensured, especially in the laboratory.

Meanwhile, capital people are suffering the most to get the corona tested. Of the 17 labs in Dhaka where the government is testing corona, only two have public corona testing.

These two institutions are Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Mugda General Medical College Hospital.
Apart from this, the authorities of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford Hospital) and Dhaka Medical College Hospital has announced corona test but the only corona test is conducting on the patients (earlier admitted), doctors, nurses, and health workers, not for the outsiders.

No one from the emergency or the outdoor or the general public can get tested. Apart from this, IEDCR is sending samples to 13 institutions where corona is being tested.

Despite the announcement, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) is not examining anyone from outside. People had to suffer a lot when they went for the test on Sunday.

More than 50 people could not get the test even after waiting for hours who had been bought tickets for the Corona test. They all came to find out if they had corona disease with any of the symptoms.

In this regard, the Department of Health is working to alleviate the suffering of the test aspirant people said the Additional Director General of the Department, Prof. Dr Nasima Sultana.

"We are collecting samples from the hotline as before. Booths are also being set up for sample collection. Tests will start soon at some more new institutions.”

“We have said that if any private hospital applies for corona examination and treatment of patients and complies with our conditions, we will consider.”
