Corona death toll drops, infection rises in Rajshahi

Though the total number of Corona deaths increased during the last 24-hour period in Rajshahi, the rate of contamination remained same during the time. 

Deputy Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Dr.Saiful Ferdous informed four patients died at the Corona unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital during the last 24-hour (11-00 am Friday to 11-00 am Saturday). With the deads, the total death toll at Corona unit of RMCH stands at 112 in the last 12-day.

Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH informed through a press release on Saturday morning that a total of 25  new Corona patients have been admitted to the Corona unit of the hospital during the last 24-hour period while at the same time 33 patients were released from the unit after recovery. At present the number of admitted Corona patients at the Corona unit of the hospital is 289 as against 271 bed capacity.  However, 18 Corona patients are in the ICUs of the hospital. 

RMCH sources informed that the rate of Corona infection has increased during the last 24-hour period. Friday night samples of 366 persons were tested in two PCR laboratories of RMCH. Of those 143 tested Corona positive. However, the rate of detection is 39.07 percent while on Thursday 143 tested positive among 373 samples and the rate of detection was 38.33 percent. 

Meanwhile, movement of all sorts of vehicles except ambulances remain suspended to and from Rajshahi as the administration enforced a strict lockdown in Rajshahi. Even the movement of trains has been halted and the fare of tickets of the passengers is being refunded at the ticket counter of Rajshahi Railway station. Police have been deployed at all important crossings and the entrances of Rajshahi city. All the shops and markets of the city are also closed. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Rajshahi Muhammad Shariful Haque informed the administration was strictly enforcing the lockdown and no one is being allowed to come out their houses except for emergency.
