Cop stabbed in Savar, 10 held

Miscreants allegedly stabbed an on-duty policeman leaving him critically injured at Anandapur area in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday. 

The injured policeman has been identified as Md. Rabbi, 25, constable at Savar Model Police Station.

Police sources said, “The incident took place when he tried to detain some accused based on a victim’s call through 999. He was later taken to Enam Medical College Hospital for treatment.” Two separate cases were filed with Savar model police station regarding the incident. “We have already detained all of the accused and produced them before a Dhaka court demanding a 5-day remand”, Mohammad Saiful Islam, Inspector of Savar Model Police Station told the Bangladesh Post. On other hand the detainees were identified as Sabbir Hossain, Jahirul Islam, Lal Miah, Mohammad Ali, A. Rahim Babu, Md. Rashed, Nazrul Islam, Al-Amin, Kamal Hossain, and Sujon Sikder. According to the case statement, a transport worker, Ikbal, made a complaint by calling 999. He said that some of the miscreants snatched Tk 5,300 and a mobile set when he was going towards his home at Anandapur area around 12:30am on Wednesday night. Later following the complaint, an on-duty police team led by a Sub-Inspector went to the spot and tried to detain the accused. At one stage, one of the miscreants, Sabbir, tried to flee stabbing the police constable, leaving him critically injured. 

However, law enforcers detained 10 accused in this connection.

Saiful Islam said, the transport worker and police filed two separate cases regarding the incident.
