Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam MP on Saturday said the desired development was not taking place in Chattagram due to lack of coordination.

He said this while inaugurating 'Patenga Booster Pump Station' under Chattogram Water Supply and Sanitation Project at Radisson Blu in the city on Saturday noon.

Speaking as the chief guest, the minister said everyone has to cooperate for sustainable development of Chattogram.

The minister said, “The mayor has to come forward to do this.  Other responsible persons also have to cooperate. If we increase our involvement, we will be able to cooperate in the development of Chattogram.”

The minister further said that Chattogram cannot be underdeveloped as the whole country is being developed under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said, “The government has always given priority to the development of Chattagram.  You must take advantage of this priority.  The city is the economic gateway of Bangladesh.  Garbage is lying around the river and land is being leased and occupied by industry, which is never desirable.  This is not a country of bandits.”

Chattogram WASA Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Jahangir Alam presided over the function.  Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Cooperatives senior secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, poke as the special guest.  Boalkhali MP Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Chattogram WASA Chairman AKM Fazlullah, Chandnaish MP Nazrul Islam, Satkania-Lohagara MP Dr Abu Reza Nadvi, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Mahanagar Mahila Awami League President Hasina Mohiuddin were the guests.

Meanwhile, the Patenga booster pump station, which was inaugurated on Saturday, will enable water to reach the people living in the southern part of the city.  As a result, it will be possible to meet the demand of huge population of various government and non-government establishments located in Chittagong Port-EPZ area.  According to WASA sources, it will be possible to supply 4.5 crore liters of water daily through this booster machine.
