Construction work of Rajbari Model Mosque remains suspended for months

Construction work of Tk. 160 million (16 crore) four-storied Rajbari District Model Mosque remained suspended for the last four months due to complexities of ownership of land at the proposed mosque site, Islamic Foundation sources saud. 

Feroz Al Mamun, Field Officer of Islamic Foundation said, people of Rajbari were demanding the construction of the district mosque in addition to the existing upazila mosque. But, due to a dispute in land ownership, the construction works of the mosque remained suspended. He hoped the construction of the mosque would restart soon after procuring new land. 

Maulana Abul Bashar, General Secretary of Ulama League, Rajbari district informed, every one of the district wants the work of construction of the mosque to be restarted soon. 

Shambhu Ram Paul, Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Works informed, the district administration had apprised the authorities of West zone railway, Rajshahi and the state department of railway office in Paksey to build the mosque on railway land and the construction works of the mosque were also started accordingly by the contractor of Messers Shamim Enterprise of Kushtia. By this time, works of filling a pond and piling on the site of railway land have also been completed. But, the committee responsible for allotment of railway land at Pakesy in an objection letter directed the contractor to halt construction works of the mosque on railway land. 

Now, new land is being searched for the site of construction of the mosque.  

Dilsad Begum, Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari in this connection informed discussion was underway with the higher authorities on the construction of the district model mosque and a new site for the mosque is also being searched. 

Rajbari Public Works Department sources informed, the department of PWD will construct the district model mosques under the supervision of the Islamic Foundation. Each mosque will be established on 43 decimal of land at a cost of Taka 16 crore. 

Islamic Foundation sources informed, the construction works of Rajbari district mosque started beside railway colony Juma mosque after filling a pond on May-5 this year. However, due to objection from the railway authorities, the construction works of the mosque have been kept suspended.
