Since after the inauguration of the Project of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Paksey of Pabna district on October-2, 2019 by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the works of the contruction of the plant is going on in the full swing.
To trasnport heavy machineries needed for the Nuke Plant, the 22-kilometre long railway linking track is being constructed outside the project area.
It is learnt, after the construction of the Hardinge Bridge in 1915, a railway track was constructed from Ishwardi to Paksey to carry construction materials for establishing railway regional office and staff quarters as well as for transporting railway officials from Ishwardi to Paksey . The free train services plying through the route was known as ‘Pilot Train’. But, the train service was discontinued from 1991 and the iron sheets, pebbles and slippers of the train-track being stolen, the service of the Pilot Train remain suspended for decades.
During Januray this year, the Rooppur Nuke Plant authorities started reconstruction of the railway track by dumping required pebbles and soil on the track to transport heavy machineries through the track to the plant site. This railway track from Ishurdi to Rooppur is nearing completion.
Rooppur Power Plant sources informed, the government has approved the construction of the 22-kilometre long railway track project covering 17.5 kilometre of dual-gauge lines, four kilometre long loop line, one ‘B class’ railway station, seven culverts, 13-level crossings and signals at a cost of Taka 3,390 million( 339 crore) to ease transport of heavy machineries of the plant.
Dr. Shaokat Akbar, Project Officer of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant informed, the works of the railawy linking track to carry heavy machineries from Ishwardi to the project site is going on in the full swing. He hoped, the contruction of the track will be finished within the stipulated time. In 2010, the decision of construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project was approved in the Parliament and in 2012 Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Act was passed.
