The construction work of a total of 368  Muktijoddha Bhaban Complexes has been completed in the country, while 26 more Complexes, which are now under construction, would be completed by June next year. The construction work of remaining 76 will begin soon.

Abdul Hakim, Project Director of “Construction of Upazila Muktijoddha Complex Bhaban Project” (CUMCP) of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), revealed the information while talking to the Bangladesh Post over telephone during his visit in Jhenidah recently.

Abdul Hakim said that the theme of establishing the project was thrown by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

It is being jointly implemented by the Liberation War Affairs Ministry and the district administration. The freedom fighters have been proving cooperation in this regard, he added.

Ground floor and the first floor of the Complexes will be used for commercial purposes for income generation of the heroic sons, while the second floor will be used as office, a library-cum mini museum of the liberation war of 1971 and a conference room.

CUMCP project director said that designed by the design unit of LGED, they have been constructing the Complexes at 470 upazilas of 63 districts throughout the country with the financial support of Government of Bangladesh (GoB). Taka 2.40 crore was estimated on an average for each of the complex.

The construction was approved in the ECNEC meeting in October of 2012 which was scheduled to be completed by June next. But it might take more time if the land registration process is delayed anyway.

Regarding some limitations of the project, CUMCP project director said that sometimes they face troubles and it takes time to acquire lands for the project when suitable Khaslands is not available in the respective locality.

Each and everybody including the freedom fighters would extend their cooperation for successful completion of the project for the heroic sons who had contributed a lot for the independence of the country from the clutch of the occupying Pakistani rulers in 1971, Abdul Hakim said.
