A constable of police has been crushed to death by a truck on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Khariala in Ashuganj Upazila of Brahmanbaria early Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Syed Hossain, 58, son of Mir Ahmed hailed from Purba Kodala area under Rangunia Police Station of Chattogram.
He was working as a police constable at Ashuganj Police Station. Officer-in-Charge of Ashuganj Police Station Mohammad Jabed Mahmud said that SI Jahirul Islam along with a team of policemen, including Syed Hossain, was on patrol in Ashuganj Toll Plaza area.
In the early hours of the morning, a goods-laden truck hit Syed while he was crossing the road on foot at Khariala bus-stand area, leaving him dead on the spot. The body was sent to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC, adding that the truck driver managed to flee the scene.
