The seventh International Consortium for Social Development Asia-Pacific (ICSDAP) Biennial conference on ‘Social unrest, peace and development’ concluded at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday.
ICSDAP and Social Welfare department of Islamic University jointly organised the conference at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university.
IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari addressed the concluding session as the chief guest while Royal University, Dhaka vice-chancellor Professor Profulla C Sarkar delivered welcome speech in the conference.
IU treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, ICSD president and social work department Professor Manohar Pawar of Charles Sturt University in Australia, Development studies department assistant Professor Jitti Mongkolnchaiarunya of Thammasat University in Thailand and chairperson of ICSDAP and principal of Institute of Rural Reconstruction Visva-Bharati Sriniketan, Birbhum West Bengal, India Asok Kumar Sarkar were present as the special guests with IU pro-vice-chancellor and chairman of social welfare department Professor M Shahinoor Rahman in the chair.
IU English department Professor M Mamunur Rahman, the coordinator of the conference, conducted the concluding session attended by over 267 researchers and 48 scholars from eight countries.
Different electronics and print media including New Age, Bangla Tribune, Bangladesh Pratidin, and Channel 24 were the media partners of the two-day conference.
The speakers in the conference discussed on different issues including civil wars, refugees and social unrest, economic disparity and its implications for peace and development, population growth, globalization, migration and challenges towards peace and development and gender inequality.
