Allegations of charging compulsory coaching fees from HSC examinees have surfaced against the authorities of Government Haraganga College in Munshiganj.

Sources said an extra Tk 1,000 taka is being collected compulsorily from almost every student in the name of coaching of the HSC examinees of the academic year 2022-23.

According to the calculations of the form fill-up, there are instructions to take Tk 2,230 from students of humanities group, Tk 2,230 from business group students and Tk 2,790 from science students. However, almost every student has to pay Tk 1,000 compulsorily for coaching, Tk 150 for data entry and Tk 30 for absence.

Around 1,500 students are likely to take part in the HSC examination from this college this year.

HSC students of the college said they are not interested in coaching before the examination but the college authorities are collecting Tk 1,000 as coaching fees from them. This is an additional stress on them, they said.

“We want to prepare well by studying regularly at home. But instead of doing it, we will have to go to college for compulsory coaching,” said a student.

When contacted, Professor Subhash Chandra Hira, principal of the Government Haraganga College, said coaching is being arranged at Haraganga College following the Coaching Policy-2012. “We will teach all the interested students. Tk 1,000 is being collected for coaching. The students will attend classes and various model tests. The aim of the initiative is to improve the results of the college. Fees are waived from students who are in poor financial condition after application.”

In this regard, District Education Officer Md Ismail Hossain said the principal of Haraganga College is an officer of our DG rank. “After coming to know about the matter, I called him and told him not to do anything that looks unpleasant,” he said.
