Alam Ali, chairman of Sharifpur Union of Jamalpur's Sadar Upazila, has been accused of embezzling huge amounts of money from government projects. Jamalpur Sadar upazila executive officer Litus Lawrence Chiran told reporters that a three-member committee has been formed headed by the upazila agriculture officer.

If there is evidence of irregularities, legal action will be taken. It was found that various mosques, madrasas, graveyards, educational institutions and road development under the rural infrastructure development, renovation and maintenance project in Sharifpur Union of Jamalpur Sadar in the financial years 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.

Local residents alleged that the UP Chairman has embezzled the money allocated for these projects by accepting about half a hundred projects. In the financial year 2021-22, about 9 tonnes of rice has been allocated for road renovation from Godashimla Bazar to Dhengargarh Tetultala Bazar under Rural Infrastructure Reform Kabikha Project.

Mohammad Ali of Dhengargarh village said that not even a spade of soil has been removed from this road in the last era.  If the government has given any allocation for this road then the whole has been embezzled.

Under the financial year 2019-20, eight tonnes for construction of road from Dhengargarh Kapalipara Mosque to Nayapara Totar Bari, 15 metric tons for soil filling from Nayapara to Dewal ghat, 24 metric tons of rice allocated for reconstruction of road from Dhengargarh Hushir Bari to Singabil via Suruj Bazar.  Even though not a single piece of soil fell anywhere in the three projects.  Rahima Begum of Dewal Ghat area, Ashar Uddin, Chalam said that there was no soil tillage on this road.

Jairampur-Raghunathpur Shashakhali canal on both sides of the bridge on the approximate road of 3 lakh 20 thousand rupees has been sanctioned, but the entire amount has been embezzled without working.  Locals said that the bridge was built at a cost of 30 lakh taka, so the bridge is not working due to the ground not being cut on both sides. Locals said that even though half of the road construction project from Sharifpur Bazar through Madrasa to the railway line funded by ADB with 5 lakh taka has been completed, no work has been done on the Jairampur Banderbari road.  When Sharifpur UP Chairman Alam Ali was asked about embezzlement of various government projects, he denied it. Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Litus Lawrence Chiran said that a 3-member committee has already been formed headed by the Upazila Agriculture Officer.  Legal action will be taken if evidence of irregularities is found.
