It is heartening to note that the government has undertaken a project for improving road network on the mountain areas in Rangamati hill district to boost the local economy.

As reported by this daily on Friday, Bilaichhari upazila of Rangamati district is coming under the improved road network project for attracting tourists as well as improving quality of life of the local people.

We appreciate the government’s enthusiasm towards prioritising the country’s road and transportation sector in its development agenda. The incumbent government has been relentlessly working for the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.

It needs no emphasising that upgraded road network

in Rangamati will facilate people's movement, transportation

of goods and bolster economic activities

Alongside the implementation of big projects like the Padma Bridge, metro rail, elevated expressway, and bullet train, it was the need of the hour that the government puts more importance on improving district roads and highways to make regional connectivity easier and faster.

This was more of a necessity for creating conducive environment for fostering economic growth. Hence, the piece of news that the government is going to improve road network on the mountain areas in Rangamati is really commendable.

We hope upgraded road network in Rangamati will facilate people's movement, transportation of goods and bolster economic activities. Development of road and transportation sector is the pre-requisite of a region’s development. The development of road and transportation sector in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) will help in the income generation of the local people.

Over the last ten years, the people of CHT have gone through a number of development schemes taken by the incumbent government.

Road and transportation scene of CHT has drastically changed and consequently lifestyle of hill people has improved in the last decade or so. We welcome the schemes that have been changing the life of the people of CHT. We want more proposals from the part of the government for the development of the vast hilly region.
