Scientists at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) have invented the most suitable and affordable rice harvester - Combine Harvester.

The Minister of Agriculture Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said, BRRI's scientists had invented the rice-cutting machine themselves. This is a remarkable achievement. Its rice harvesting capacity is comparatively high, suitable for use in small lands of the country. The cost of various combine harvesters including Yanmar abroad is 25-30 lakh Tk and it will cost 12-13 lakh Tk. Harvest loss is also low. If we can make the device invented by BRRI locally and use it all over the country, then there will be a revolution in agricultural mechanization in Bangladesh. It will play a unique role in increasing agricultural production and making agriculture profitable.

BRRI scientists said that the engine of their invented Brie hole feed combine harvester was brought from abroad. Other equipment is locally made. Its engine power is 6 horsepower. The machine can cut paddy of 3-4 bighas of land per hour. Fuel consumption is 3.5-4 liters per hour. Harvesting loss is less than one percent. And the price will be only 12-13 lakh Tks. It is also suitable for use in plots of land. BRRI's scientists say it's better than any combine harvester imported from abroad.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Mesbahul Islam, newly joined Secretary Md Sayedul Islam, Director General of BRRI Shahjahan Kabir, senior officials of the Ministry and heads of agencies were present.

The Minister of Agriculture inaugurated the new five-storey residential building 'BRRI Sramik Colony Bhaban' constructed for BRRIworkers on the premises of BRRI. At the same time, the minister said, agricultural workers have important contribution in inventing new varieties and technologies. The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute has been able to invent hundreds of high yielding rice varieties in the country through the talent and imagination of scientists and the labor and sweat of agricultural workers. Which is making a significant contribution to the food security of the country. The Agriculture Minister further said that like Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, felt the sorrow and grief of the workers of the country with her heart. So Bangabandhu took various initiatives for the accommodation of working people as a gift of the centenary. BRRI is a real example of a newly constructed workers' colony building.

On the same day at noon, the Minister attended the annual reunion of the Ministry of Agriculture as the chief guest at the premises of BRRI. Outgoing Senior Secretary Md Mesbahul Islam and newly joined Secretary Md Sayedul Islam were given reception at the meeting.
