A college student was killed in lightning strike in Habiganj on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sujon Miah, 18, son of Shafik Mia of Alinagar village under Chunarughat upazila of the district. He was an HSC student of Gazipur High School and College. Sujon was killed when a streak of thunderbolt struck him at about 6:00 am during rain while fishing in a wetland near to his house.
Locals brought him to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead. At the same time, a buffalo and a cow were killed by the strike of another thunderbolt at Chandisara village under Deorgachh union of the upazila.
