A college student drowned in the river Padma near the I-embankment of Rajshahi High Tech park on Saturday noon.
Being informed a diver team of Rajshahi Fire Service dept. started a rescue operation but till 5-00 PM, the team failed to trace the drowned student.
The drowned student has been identified as Jony (25) son of Yeasin Ali, a retired police official of Chapainawabganj.
He lives with his family members at Raipara area of Rajshahi city. Jony is a Master's final year student of Rajshahi College.
Senior Station Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Rajshahi, informed Jony went to visit the I-embakment area of the river Padma on a motor-bike with one of his friends. By keeping the bike beside the river, they dived into the water of the river to take a bath.
But, the strong turbulent water of the river washed Jony away while his friend managed to swim ashore.
Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and started the
rescue operation but till 5-00 PM there was no trace of drowned Jony. The rescue operation will continue, informed FS officials.
