A college student has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Naria of Shariatpur on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Mahbub Hossain Antu, 18, son of Alauddin Mekar of Baishakhipara village of the upazila. He was a student of class XI of Naria Government College.
His family members rescued him in an unconscious state at 11:00pm on Saturday and took him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. The on-duty doctor of the hospital declared him dead.
Mahbub's sister Sumi Akhter said, “His brother was found hanging from a ceiling of his room. Later, the family members rescued him after noticing and took him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. However, the reason behind his suicide could not be known.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palang police station Aslam Uddin confirmed the matter.
He said that the body was kept at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. It looks like the body was strangled to death. The incident has been reported to Naria police station. Police will take necessary action in this regard.
